About the Performance
Under the rule of the smart and beautiful Empress Wu, who is known for her strategic thinking and bold leadership, the Tang dynasty has flourished and turned into a kingdom with great strengths. She has demonstrated her political talent and ushered in a prosperous era, making her one of the most famous leaders in history. It is believed that she owes much of her success to her chancellor, Di Renjie, who is not only known for his dedication to his post, but also a popular figure in fictional novels where he was described as a fascinating detective. In Empress Wu Casts the Golden Slip, Di is actually described as the only man Empress Wu has ever loved. They are emperor and chancellor as well as best friends. Why did she cut her hair on his behalf? Why did she cast a golden slip at Mount Song? The mesmerizing Banzi opera adaptation Empress Wu Casts the Golden Slip is a show that traditional opera lovers should not miss.
