About the Performance
In Spring/Summer 2018 (May-June-July), Tyva Kyzy embarks on a world tour to Korea, Taiwan, Japan, the USA, Europe and back to Moscow, capitol of the Russian Federation, of which the Republic of Tuva is part, to celebrate their 20 years of promoting female Tuvan music, singing and khöömei.
The Performance Group│Tyva Kyzy
Tyva Kyzy (Daughters of Tuva) was founded by Choduraa Tumat in 1998 with an ambition to break the age-old taboo on women singing with throat techniques. The group is the first and the only group of women performing throat-singing in Central-Asia. They are pioneers of ensemble performing of this unique traditional technique of Tuvan throat singing. The throat-singing, or khöömei in Tuvan, is still considered to be a domain of male singers. The main accomplishment of the group remains the female throat-singing songs, although the group also performs plenty of “ordinary”, traditional folk songs. Apart from that all members of the group are outstanding instrumentalists, playing on various instruments. Thus their music covers the whole range of traditional Tuvan musical colors
